What is a thermal bridge? In a nutshell, it’s the movement of heat across an object that is more conductive than the materials around it. This simple diagram helps show how the transfer from warm to cold happens.
Thermal bridging not only causes a loss of heat within the space, it can also cause the warm air inside to cool down. In the coldest season of the year, this means higher utility costs and potentially uncomfortable shifts in temperature inside your home or building.

This throwback takes us to the year Todd first discovered his passion for energy-efficient building while writing a high school paper on passive solar design.
Fast forward a few years, and Todd found himself on a career path that required a lot of travel. But after his 👶 👶 daughters were born, he knew it was time for a change. He went back to his roots, trained in Passive House building science, and never looked back.
Seeing a gap in the market, he launched AE Building Systems, and one of the first products he represented was 🏡 Alpen Windows! Decades later, he’s still selling, advocating for, and believing in Alpen’s high-performance products.
So, if you ever wondered how Todd got into Passive House building, well, it all started with a high school dream that became a reality!
